SOUND TEACHING OF TRUTH AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

 

TITUS 2: 11 – 14

 

INTRODUCTION:

1.       HAVING EXAMINED THE PARTICULARS OF SOUND DOCTRINE; SOUND MINDS, AND SOUND FAMILIES COMPRISING THE LORD’S CHURCH, WE CONCLUDE THIS SERIES THIS EVENING WITH EXAMINING SOUND TEACHING. FOR THIS LESSON, WE DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN SOUND “DOCTRINE” AND SOUND “TEACHING” ONLY IN THIS REGARD:

a.       SOUND DOCTRINE IS THE CONTENT OF THE GOSPEL – WHAT WE CAN PROVE WITH BOOK, CHAPTER AND VERSE REGARDING THE PLAN OF SALVATION, OUR CONDUCT OF LIVING BEFORE GOD AND FELLOW MAN, AND THE GUIDANCE OF OUR LIVES ACCORDING TO THIS SOUND TRUTH.

a.       SOUND TEACHING IS THE MANNER OF OUR CONDUCT AS PER VERSE 12 OF THIS TEXT; THE IDEAL THAT WE DO NOT DEPART TO THE RIGHT HAND OR THE LEFT (Deu_28:14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.) OR ADD TO OR TAKE FROM THE SACREDNESS OF THIS TRUTH (REVELATION 22:18 – 19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.)

3.       WE NOTE FROM THIS PRESENT TEXT THESE REALITIES:

a.       THE GRACE OF GOD THAT BROUGHT US SALVATION HAS APPEARED TO ALL MEN.

b.      THE GRACE OF GOD TEACHES US

                                                                           i.      DENY UNGODLINESS AND WORLDLY LUSTS

                                                                         ii.      LIVE SOBERLY, RIGHTEOUSLY AND GODLY IN THIS PRESENT WORLD

                                                                        iii.      LOOK FOR THE BLESSED HOPE AND GLORIOUS APPEARING OF CHRIST

c.       HE GAVE HIMSELF FOR US

                                                                           i.      TO REDEEM US

                                                                         ii.      PURIFY TO HIMSELF A PERCULIAR PEOPLE WHO ARE ZEALOUS OF GOOD WORKS

4.       THIS BEING SO, WE MUST ABIDE STRICTLY BY HIS RULES AND NOT OUR OWN! WE MUST BE CARE TO “PROVE ALL THINGS; HOLD FAST THAT WHICH IS GOOD” (1 THESS. 5:21) AND SPEAKING AND DOING ONLY AS HE PERMITS US TO SPEAK AND DO (COLOSSIANS 3:17; TITUS 2:1).

        I.            THERE IS A MARKED DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WORLD AND THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST, THE CHURCH

      II.            THE CHURCH IS NOT OF THE UNSOUND WORLD
